New $1 Stuff at Target
Target has started to fill its “See. Spot Save” (formerly the One Spot) section with school-related stuff for teachers and students. I bought Finn some Winnie the Pooh Pre-K workbooks there on Friday, and he’s already finished both of them! I may have to go back and look for Kindergarten or First Grade workbooks to challenge him a little more.
They also had packs of 15 glow sticks and connectors for just $1 too.

Scientific Reassurance
In response to my Sermon Notes post, a co-worker sent me the video below. It’s about 45 minutes so be patient and you’ll see some awesome things.
Indescribable – Louis Giglio
The video was in response to my first comment about not being able to understand God and the verse in Isaiah 55:8-9: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
If you can never reach His level of understanding then why try? But if someone wasn’t out there trying we wouldn’t have some of the cool scientific and astronomical finds that only confirm the awesomeness of God and his Creation. As I explained today at work, my simple mind struggles to fathom that the universe even has mysteries, much less trying to find out what those mysteries are. The verse shared Sunday just confirmed for me that it’s OK not to need scientific reassurance of what a creative and mind-blowingly intelligent Creator we have. But as the video shows, it’s also OK to be amazed when science confirms what you already know to be true.

Sermon Notes
I’ve really enjoyed the sermon series at church the last month or so about finding God’s will. I’m a note-taker and took quite a bit of notes this past Sunday, some of which I thought I’d share here.
- As hard as we try, we will never understand God. The verse below really spoke to me because at work I hear a lot about scientists trying to learn more about how the universe formed and find out if there’s other Earth-like planets. I can’t just can’t even fathom why they would even want to know such things.”‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” Isaiah 55:8-9
- God is not the only one who can open doors.
- Decisions affect more than just us.
- Seek Godly council. How do you know who to ask? Ask someone who will be honest and who has nothing to lose. Ask someone who is at the place in life where you want to be. Ask more than one person, someone you know well and someone you don’t know well. Ask expecting God to answer.
- Do not focus on the circumstances. Peter was distracted by the circumstances (the wind) (Matthew 14:29-30). Use circumstances not to determine God’s will but to confirm it. Satan can make circumstances happen too.

The “Pipe”
An impromptu stop for a milkshake at Burger King yesterday led to my discovery of the “BK Pipe” straw. The straw comes with the new Oreo Sundae Shake. In case you can’t ‘tell from my picture, let me make clear that this is a big straw. I measured it when I got back to work and it’s a quarter inch across. That’s about the same width as a finger. Pretty large compared to traditional straws.
I’m guessing that the logic is you need a bigger straw to slurp up all of the Oreo cookie pieces. The cookies in the Burger King shake are not obliterated into a fine dust like in the other places’ Oreo shakes. However, the Pipe didn’t really suck them up either. After all the ice cream was gone I still had to use a spoon to scoop up all of the Oreo pieces at the bottom. I give Burger King credit for trying though. An article on CNN said the “Pipe” is part of Burger King’s effort to be more “cool” for the younger, Gen Y (especially males) crowd.
I have to say though, that before I realized the “Pipe” was a special straw exclusively for the Oreo shake, I had this thought: “Do Americans really need everything to be so much bigger, better, faster that we now need wider straws to guzzle our mega-size drinks?” Glad to discover that isn’t the case (yet).

Heated Sidewalks
They’re opening a Target store in Alaska that will have heated sidewalks to melt the snow. How cool (or hot) is that???
Target Cartipede
There’s a cute little game on the Facebook Target group page. It’s called Cartipede. If you’re on Facebook go to the Target group. If you’re not on Facebook, join Facebook. Then go to the Target group.
The game is so cute! You have to drive your little red Target cart around the parking lot collecting other red Target carts. You can’t hit the cars, and there’s little bad guys that try to steal your carts and little bonus things like Target shopping bags or hamburgers that give you extra points and make little streamers come out of your cart. To win, collect all the carts and return them to the store. I’ve yet to do it successfully but am having fun trying.
There’s also other cool stuff on the Target group page about new college/dorm stuff and some new Target commercials.

Sheryl Crow “No Depression in Heaven”
A Sheryl Crow song I had never heard of until today. It’s from “The Unbroken Circle: The Musical Heritage of the Carter Family.”
