Bride Wars

I finally got to see Bride Wars last night. This is the one we’d talked about seeing at Valentine’s, saw He’s Just Not That Into instead, kinda regretted not seeing Bride Wars, and THEN once it was out on DVD had to wait a few weeks for Netflix to send the DVD because so many people had requested it. Short review: very cute movie, humorous, light and funny. What I really think: I miss my BFF from high school. Because the movie revolved around best friends who’d planned their whole weddings out — with each other as the other’s maid of honor — from the time they were kids, it reminded me of her and our own wedding fiascos. Nothing like the ones in the movie where weddings are double-booked on the same day, but we did get married the same summer and some of the themes of the movie were evident with us and not everything worked out as we’d hoped. The words that close out the movie, spoken by Candice Bergen, who plays the wedding planner:

It was quite a wedding and as I stood there watching I realized something I’d forgotten a long time ago. Sometimes in life there really are bonds formed that can never be broken. Sometimes you really can find that one person who will stand by you no matter what. Maybe you will find it in a spouse and celebrate it with your dream wedding. But there’s also the chance that the one person you can count on for a lifetime, the one person who knows you sometimes better than you know yourself is the same person who’s been standing beside you all along.
