Why are the 80s back? The toy aisles are filled with Transformers and GI Joe, My Little Ponies, Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty and Carebears. (Which by the way, if all those are back where are my beloved Rainbow Brite and Jem?)
The shoe department has styles like these (which I actually tried on, by the way).
New Balance even has similar styles on their “retro running” page on their Web site.
The biggest thing (which is driving what toys are on the shelf) is the movies. In the last few years we’ve had movie re-makes of Bewitched, Dukes of Hazzard, Bad News Bears, Charlie’s Angels, just to name a few. Now we’ve got Transformers and GI Joe. They’re making Ghostbusters III and The A-Team movies. A remake of Fame comes out next month, and there’s rumors of a Gremlin 3.
I’m not complaining. I just don’t understand why? The 80s were cool but they weren’t that cool that we need to relive them, were they?
